Jimmy Kimmel had some well-deserved fun with Donald Trump’s obvious struggle to stay awake during a live Oval Office event, especially given Trump’s long-running habit of mocking Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe.”
During his monologue, Kimmel used footage that seemed to demonstrate Trump nodding off while reporters and officials gathered around him. The comedian joked that Trump seemed to be heading off to “dreamland,” turning one of Trump’s favorite insults back on him.
“Trump has been in office now for almost two years, and he’s still trying to blame everything he doesn’t like on Joe Biden,” Kimmel said before playing footage of Trump napping at the White House event.
Kimmel also pointed out the obvious irony of Trump appearing drowsy immediately after spending years ridiculing Biden for allegedly being “sleepy.” The late-evening host used the footage to mock Trump for dozing off again and suggested the president might want to retire the “Sleepy Joe” nickname.
“Sleepy Joe Biden, have you heard of him?” Trump asked during the clip Kimmel played.
“No, I haven’t heard of him; you’ve never mentioned him before,” Kimmel joked.
“Then, only minutes after invoking the name ‘sleepy Joe Biden,’ nappy Don Trump drifted off to dreamland on live TV,” Kimmel said as he played the footage.
“Even Mitch McConnell was like, ‘Bro, wake up!’” he added.
