President Donald Trump is crashing hard into the harsh reality facing himself and the GOP in the midterms, and as conservative critic George Conway told MS NOW, he now appears to be suffering from “psychotic breaks” as a result.
Conway, a conservative attorney and ex-husband of Trump ally Kellyanne Conway, has become a prominent conservative critic of the president in the last decade, working alongside The Lincoln Project and running in a Democratic primary earlier this year. On Saturday, he appeared as a panel guest on MS NOW’s The Weekend, where he and others were pressed about a new report from The Washington Post that, despite his “bravado,” he “actually is starting to panic a little bit” about the likely possibility of Republicans losing the House and Senate in the midterms.
Democratic consultant Neera Tanden, another guest on the panel, said that the “connection” was clear between this new panic and Trump’s renewed attacks on the free press, referencing his recent decision to bar MS NOW, CNN and Politico from the White House.
“And I think the truth is that I think he’s deeply, deeply worried about the accountability that will come,” Tanden said. “Not just now, the possibility of House Democrats being in charge, but Democrats being in charge of the Senate, which would have a big impact on his ability to nominate anyone. And so I think all of this is, you know, him being concerned that his power is finally, finally weakening.”
Conway argued that Trump’s thought process in response to these midterm fears is not that of a “psychologically normal and healthy person,” who might step back and ask, “Am I doing something wrong?”
“Donald Trump is not that,” he explained. “he’s psychotic at this point. He’s having psychotic breaks. He’s never been in touch with reality to the extent that one would expect, one would want someone with, you know, thousands of nuclear weapons at their disposal to be. But now he’s completely losing it.
He continued: “That’s why Natalie Harp is feeding him this stuff. That’s why he gets so mad at the press for asking him questions that contain facts. Because he cannot deal with facts, he cannot deal with reality. The man is losing it, okay? He’s losing it faster than ever. And I’m going to keep using the word psychotic because it is actually the word to describe him, and it’s going to get worse.”
