Donald J. Trump’s much-publicized Freedom Fuel initiative is attracting some unwelcome attention, and not because Americans are suddenly enjoying cheaper gasoline.
The operation, which Trump promoted as an example of his efforts to bring down fuel prices, has become caught up in a growing legal controversy involving one of its business partners.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, Mansfield Oil alleges that KRSM Inc., led by Syed Kazmi, took more than 1.1 million gallons of gasoline without paying. Sounds like a problem!
The company is now seeking approximately $4 million. KRSM disputes the allegations, calling it an accounting matter involving improperly priced invoices.
The legal trouble doesn’t end there. A federal judge has ordered KRSM to maintain at least $2.75 million in a bank account while the litigation moves forward. The Kazmi brothers have also earlier faced a court judgment involving more than 230,000 gallons of fuel.
