Trump Claimed He Won Iran War 8 Months Before He Started It

On October 6th, the 80-year-old Trump undercut his own justification for his prolonged, unnecessary, and unpopular war with Iran.

TRUMP: They say, “Oh, we’re in for six months into Iran.” Yeah, Iran’s bigger, but we really ended it as soon as the B2 bombers hit because that was the end of their nuclear, and that was 95 percent of the reason we did it. Maybe 100 percent.

Clearly, Trump couldn’t be bothered to think through his own stupid defense of his own stupid war. The New Republic did think it through. TNR pointed out that Trump was referring to the “bunker buster” bombings on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025, eight months before the now-ongoing war began in March 2026.

If Trump believes he ended Iran’s nuclear program during those strikes, then he is also admitting there was no need to start the war he predicted would only last a few weeks, now in its eighth month and with no end in sight.

That also means, as TNR pointed out, that 22 U.S. service members died and hundreds more were injured for no good reason. Ditto for the hundreds of Iranian civilians and schoolchildren who should be alive today. According to Trump’s own logic, the Pentagon needlessly wasted military weapons as well as more than $45 billion of taxpayer dollars.
