Happy Monday. Stock futures were climbing and oil prices were falling as markets looked to recover from last week’s brutal tech sell-off while gearing up for Apple’s (AAPL) fourth-quarter results.

Markets tumbled Friday as tech stocks slid amid disappointing earnings reports from companies including Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOG) and concerns about massive AI spending. The tech-heavy Nasdaq posted its worst single-day performance since June.

“Global markets are starting November on a cautious note, attempting to recover from a difficult October dominated by technology weakness and concerns about AI investment,” Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com, said.

“Wall Street suffered another sharp sell-off on Friday as investors questioned whether the enormous sums being invested in AI infrastructure can generate sufficient returns.”

Hathorn noted that U.S. futures were pointing to a rebound Monday morning and Asian markets were also recovering, led by South Korea, while European futures suggested a relatively subdued but stable opening.

“The recovery suggests investors remain willing to buy into weakness, although confidence in the technology sector remains fragile,” she said. “Apple’s results will be particularly interesting because of its relatively limited exposure to large-scale AI infrastructure spending compared with its peers.”

The iPhone maker is scheduled to report fourth-quarter earnings after the market closes Monday.

“Strong results could help stabilize the Nasdaq, but disappointing guidance could quickly undermine this morning’s tentative recovery.”

Hathorn said Tuesday’s U.S. midterm elections would be the biggest political event of the week, with investors watching how the balance of power in Congress could influence fiscal policy, government borrowing and Treasury yields.
