Near the end of a wide-ranging interview with the BBC Friday, Hunter Biden was asked about his father’s prostate and bone cancer.

“How has the family taken this diagnosis?” BBC’s Paddy O’Connell asked the former president’s son.

“It’s really tough, Paddy. That’s the real answer,” Hunter replied. Then he choked up as he explained that his father “remains the center of our family, not just because of who he is as the public person but completely because of who he is to each one of us, down to his grandchildren and his great-grandchild.”

It was hard not to choke up along with him as he described his father as “our rock” who has “been there for each one of us in a way that is hard for me to even possibly articulate and explain.”

“Whatever you think about his politics or the decisions that he made, I can tell you this: He’s the best father, the best husband, the best grandfather of anyone that I’ve ever read about, heard about, or even seen in a movie. He is – and so it’s really hard, Paddy, and it’s really sad to watch,” the younger Biden continued.

Then he delivered the news I am sure none of us here at C&L wanted to hear: “The cancer has spread, it’s metastasized into his bones and further. It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”

“I wish he would complain more,” Hunter said. But, his father is “still out there” he added. “As long as he’s alive, I promise you he’s going to continue to fight.”

The whole interview is worth watching. The part about Biden’s health begins at 13:58.
