President Donald Trump will soon have an airport named after him in a major red state, and according to NOTUS, residents there have started a war against the change, calling him a “disastrous moron” and the pandering name-change “pathetic” in messages to officials
Trump has spent much of his second term obsessed with remodeling key landmarks to his liking and slapping his name on any institution he can get away with. Republicans across the country have been happy to help him with the latter, launching various initiatives to rename things in their states after him. While some of these ideas have stalled out, one seems poised to become official in Florida: changing Palm Beach International Airport to the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Despite Florida’s recent reputation as a firmly red state, residents in the more liberal Palm Beach area are not taking this development lying down. As NOTUS reported on Thursday morning, frequent fliers through the airport have inundated its officials with “angry,” “exasperated” and “violent” messages, letting their hatred of the name change be known in no uncertain terms.
“I will never fly in or out of this pathetic, ass-kissing airport again once you change the name to honor the most corrupt, incompetent, disastrous moron to ever hold the office,” one message from someone calling themselves “Florida native” read.
“I will never again utilize PBI for any travel plans now that it is named for the orange headed clown,” another message read.
“If you actually change the name of this airport and honor that man, I will make it my mission in life to never, ever, EVER spend a penny at your airport,” another message threatened.
Far from just boycott threats, at least one message went a step further.
“One person, citing Trump, made a bomb threat — it’s unclear whether officials investigated — saying they had placed explosive devices within the airport and on an outbound plane,” NOTUS detailed. “They demanded $30 million to not detonate them.”
The report continued: “These comments are among dozens of missives sent by outraged patrons through Palm Beach International Airport’s website since March, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that renamed the facility ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” The airport is situated about five miles from Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private club and political redoubt, and the name change is slated to take effect July 1. NOTUS obtained the airport’s website comments log through a Florida Public Records Act request.”
Yet more of these incensed messages were a lot more colorful with their language, NOTUS observed.
“You bunch of spineless motherf——. Taxes aren’t to make Trump rich. That is corruption,” one person wrote on May 5. This came around the same time that it was reported that Trump would likely be able to profit off the name change thanks to licensing, despite insisting that he would not do so.
“Trump Airport… F—— YOU. Should be Palm B—— … once this a—— is gone…you will all look like fools,” another message, sent two days later read.
