“I love the poorly educated.”
“Smart people don’t like me.”
“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, ok?”
Ever since the moment he came cruising down that damned gold escalator, Donald Trump has had a nasty little habit of blatantly insulting the very people who have put him where he is today, and now he’s at it yet again.
During a rally in Clarksville, TN, over the weekend, as part of his last-ditch effort to boot Republican voters ahead of the impending midterm elections, the president stood on the stage and straight-up called his own voters out for blindly supporting him, quite literally no matter what he does or says, however “stupid” it may be.
“It’s amazing!” Trump told the crowd as they all chanted and cheered for him. “When you stand up here, it’s just like… the love. I could say the stupidest things and you’d clap. ‘Oh, I love you so…’ It’s true.”
While the MAGA fools all around him couldn’t eat up his insults fast enough, basically everyone else was quick to notice that the president seems to hate his own fans more than even we do.
The Atlantic’s Johnathan Chait noted, “Nobody has more contempt for Trump’s fans than Trump.”
