Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem apparently wasn’t content to let the State Department handle its own announcements. According to a new report, Noem went rogue and posted an unauthorized press release on social media to explain her new role in the Trump administration.
After Donald Trump removed Noem as DHS secretary in March, he appointed her special envoy for the Shield of the Americas, a newly created position. That six-month appointment expired in September, leaving questions about what she would do next.
On October 16, Noem posted what appeared to be an official State Department announcement on X, saying her special envoy position has always been a six-month appointment and that she would remain at the department as a senior adviser.

There was just one teensy problem: the State Department reportedly never authorized the announcement.
Politico, citing two people familiar with Noem’s role at the department, reported that the statement wasn’t an official State Department press release. One source said Noem had gone rogue and created fake letterhead to post the announcement herself.
