Darline Graham just refused to dispute Trump’s biggest lie

President Donald Trump’s endorsed nominee for the US Senate in South Carolina, incumbent Sen. Darline Graham, is struggling so much after admitting to not know anything about America’s relationship with Taiwan that political experts believe she and Trump may soon face an embarrassing loss in that state’s upcoming Republican primary. Now Graham may have compounded the political damage through a new gaffe — refusing to come out clearly against, or even for, Trump’s ongoing Big Lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

“MS NOW’s Mychael Schnell asked the appointed senator about this during a Monday press conference,” reported MS NOW’s Steve Benen on Monday. “She apparently didn’t want to talk about it.”

Benen then reported “Senator, you just mentioned that you agree with your brother on everything except for one matter, that being illegal immigration, you’d go farther than him on that. That being said, I’m curious, do you agree with him about the 2020 election, that Joe Biden was certified the winner of that election, was lawfully elected, and that you would’ve voted to certify the election, as your brother did?”

He added that Graham responded, “I think our election system is broken,” which Benen described as “pushing a line that was both outrageously false and irrelevant to the underlying question. She then quickly shifted to emphasizing her support for the voter suppression package the White House has spent much of the year pushing.”

Schnell then followed up by asking, “You won’t commit to having certified the results of the 2020 election?” Benen reported that Graham handled this by ignoring the query, reporting that she “refused to engage and moved on.”

Graham has been harshly criticized in general for seeming to be ignorant of major policy issues despite seeking to replace her brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), for a full term.

“The truly jarring moment came when Greta van Susteren (remember her?) asked Ms. Graham about the importance of Taiwan to the national security of the United States,” former Army Corporal Charlotte Clymer wrote for her Substack.

Following a link to the video, Clymer concluded that “Ms. Graham asked her to repeat the question—which bought her about five seconds of stalling—and then hesitated and said, ‘I’m just gonna be honest here. I’m not on national security—I’m not—I’m not that informed on national security. So… but I do support the military.’ And that, my friends, may be the worst answer I’ve ever seen in any campaign debate.”
