With the challenges around booking flight tickets, hotels and other aspects of a trip mostly eliminated by technology, most travel agencies operating in 2026 either serve niche markets or organize travel for larger groups. Many companies selling organized travel have also not been able to survive in a shifting market and rising operational costs. In the United Kingdom, travel agencies that either filed for bankruptcy or collapsed entirely since the start of 2026 include Salamander Voyages, Groupia, Travel Bespoke, Regan Central and Trav Expert as well as Oxfordshire-registered cruise agency Set Sail Cruises.Yourtravelshop.com enters voluntary liquidation after 35 years in businessThe latest travel agency to plunge into administration is Yourtravelshop.com. Established out of the suburban London town of Ilford in 2004, the company targeted the local immigrant community by selling organized tours to several Islamic holy sites Muslims typically visit for the Hajj, Umrah, and Ziyarat pilgrimages — the Kaaba and Masjid al-Haram in Saudi Arabia, in particular.Prior to being incorporated in its current form in 2004, the owners of Yourtravelshop.com Ltd. have been selling these types of tours to the local community since the 1990s.Related: Another city popular with travelers introduces tourist tax”For over 30 years, we have been entrusted to guide pilgrims towards moments that shape hearts, elevate minds, and leave imprints that last a lifetime with spiritual devotion,” Yourtravelshop.com writes on its website. The trip packages had been listed at prices starting from between £1,200 and £1,875.As first reported by local press, the travel agency entered voluntary liquidation while Donald Harper and Andrew Maak of Bolton-based The Insolvency Practice Limited were appointed as the joint administrators overseeing the process.

What happens to travelers who booked trips with Yourtravelshop.comWithout an official comment from the company, it is unclear what pushed the decline in bookings that ultimately led to its insolvency. The pages selling new trips to customers lead to an inactive link on the Yourtravelshop.com website but it is also unclear how many travelers with future trips are affected and whether they will receive refunds.More Travel News:Airline to launch unusual new flight to Cayman Islands from the U.S.There is a very cool Irish version of swimming pigs in the BahamasUnexpected country is most luxurious travel destination for 2026Low-cost airline launches easier way to get to Sri Lanka The Companies House, the British government agency in charge of incorporating and dissolving corporations, still lists the company’s status as active while its last financial statement is dated from October 2025.Some other travel companies to file for bankruptcy in 2026:AVG Travels: The Melbourne-based travel agency selling cheap vacation packages to travelers in Australia and New Zealand sent more than 200 travelers an email saying that the trips were canceled before entering bankruptcy in May 2026.GoPlay Sports: In April 2026, the men’s basketball team of the University of Dallas was left without a planned trip to compete in the United Kingdom after Boston-based GoPlay Sports Tours LLC accepted two payments of $30,000 and then went unreachable.Havantur: Havantur was forced to shut down its main European office in Franceat the start of 2026 after tourist numbers to the Caribbean country plummeted due to U.S. military actions in Venezuela and threats against the country.Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations: Two travel agencies in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations, were shut down by regulators within a few days of each other in January 2026 after multiple travelers complained of buying trips with invalid plane tickets and hotel bookings.Related: 24-year-old travel company files for bankruptcy, cancels trips
