A major airport is getting a second fancy Delta lounge

While it takes flying many miles with an airline (or, subsequently, spending tens of thousands a year on its signature credit card) to earn status high enough that gets one access, many carriers have been seeing their lounges get increasingly crowded as some estimates show a 31% increase in visits across those operated by major airlines between 2025 and 2026.Along with the significantly less popular move of raising the requirements for getting status high enough to get one lounge entry, airlines have been rushing to build new lounges at airports across the country.American Airlines is currently in the process of building a new Admirals Club location in Austin while JetBlue Airways opened its very first lounge at JFK in New York in December 2025.Delta to open second premium lounge at LAX by 2027At the start of June, Delta Air Lines announced plans to build a second Delta One Lounge at LAX. Differing from its other Sky Club locations, Delta One is the top tier of lounge known for their finer dining and spa amenities and accessible only to those flying in the airline’s top cabin class; one cannot gain access by status or credit card alone. At the moment, there are four Delta One lounges at key hub airports of JFK, Boston Logan, LAX and Seattle-Tacoma. Additional locations are in the works in Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Salt Lake City while the LAX location will complement the one currently in Terminal 3 with a second lounge at Terminal 2 (Delta operates out of both).Related: It will soon get easier to get to Fiji from North AmericaLos Angeles will be the only airport in the country to have two Delta One lounges. While scant on details, Delta has set the opening date on early 2028 and is confirming private security screening and transportation to the area following check-in as among the premium features offered.Details on exact food options, wellness amenities or any other features (the JFK and LAX locations both have sprawling outdoor decks) have not yet been announced by the airline.

Just in time for 2028 Olympics, Delta sets sights on Los AngelesA new regular Sky Club location at Terminal 2 will open in 2027. All this comes as Los Angeles prepares to host the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The airline also announced new routes between LAX and Hong Kong International (HKG) and Chicago’s O’Hare (ORD) launching at the start of this June. With larger numbers of travelers slated to pass through the city throughout the summer of 2028, lounge crowding will become increasingly more of a problem particularly given the original purpose of giving top-tier travelers a luxury experience at the airport.More Travel News:Airline to launch unusual new flight to Cayman Islands from the U.S.What you can expect at Disneyland’s new ‘World of Frozen’Unexpected country is most luxurious travel destination for 2026U.S. government issues strange warning on Ireland travel”Los Angeles is one of our most important global gateways, and these additions give our customers more choice and flexibility across the network,” Delta said in a statement on another expansion from the city to multiple new routes in Florida earlier in 2026.Travelers in the highest fare of Delta network airlines such as Air France La Premiere, LATAM Premium business class and Korean Air First and Prestige also get access to the Delta One lounges when passing through U.S. airports.Related: Three iconic New York City chains come to major airport
