A popular Ohio distillery and winery has unexpectedly closed after about five years in business, leaving customers shocked and disappointed and raising questions about its future. The closing comes as the craft distillery industry faced economic challenges in 2025 that has spilled over into 2026.The number of active craft distillers, which includes moonshine and specialty wine producers, declined by 25.6% from 3,069 to 2,282 in the year ending August 2025, according to the American Craft Spirits Association’s Craft Spirits Data Project 2025. The association has not yet released its 2026 report. The decline in distillery numbers follows a decrease in production and sales results in 2024 as the industry produced 12.7 million cases of spirits in 2024, down 6.1% from 13.5 million in 2023 with sales falling in the same period by 3.3% to $7.58 billion. The decline in business has led to distillery closings across the nation in 2026, such as Ohio-based Tuck-N-Red’s, which could lead to another overall decline in the number of distilleries for the year.
